Studio Time in Intermedia
Intermedia this evening was full of creative energy and it was a quiet energy that makes the a room hum!! The transfer demo was really inspiring because it allows so much potential for creativity and I kept thinking of Marcel Duchamp, Joesph Cornell and Lenore Tawney because of their exquisite ability to take objects and create evocative and elegant art. I sat by the beeswax all night transferring Rumi poems onto vellum and it was just fantastic. I am going to create a reliquary out of the vellum paper for one of my newly made fetishes. I am excited about this piece because my vision is an installation w/ about 20-40 reliquaries hanging from the ceiling and each one will have a fetish inside.

Touch
I just lost what I had written about my self-portrait. I am trying to work with all the technology that is available, but the learning curve seems daunting to me at the moment and I really prefer working with materials like clay, plaster and dirt. I used to teach young children art and many of them had never used clay, made bread or played in sand. They had difficulty with moving their fingers and their fine motor skills were poor. However, once I started working with the group a shift happened and the children became engaged and excited with the rhythm of touch through the magic of clay. It also helped some children with their social skills and they were able to talk to one another. Touch is so important and it will always be important no matter what. An early childhood art educator Rhoda Kellog did many studies of art and creativity with young children and she discovered that no matter where she was children always figured out a way to draw with sticks, fingers, rocks, shells to make a mark to feel the sensation or pressure of marker to a any surface. This is my art musing for today.

Projections
I am really excited about adding projections to my sculptures and installations. I am hesitant because sometimes I have a tendency to put too much stuff into one piece. This process allows for me to really notice that less is better. I have two projection pieces that I really want to follow through on this quarter because I have been thinking about them for awhile. I also have been looking at Ann Hamilton's installations and here projections are do interrelated to the objects in her installations. Projection vs. Video. Stillness vs. movement. Beeswax, goldleaf, and the transfer were just delightful. I am trying also to add text... we shall see. The 16mm strip film was so fascinating because there was so much manipulation on that film, and the images were beautiful especially the one with the holes and it would be a beautiful projection.

Well, it is challenging musing about art on the conputer becuase I am more comfortable w/ paper and pen to draw and write my thoughts. I find paper more sensual. I love the texture of paper, I love the moment when the pen first touches the paper. My ideas swirl on paper. I do however, prefer the laptop because it seems more intimate and I am more aware of touching the keys. It actually feels like I am dancing with my fingers?? I discovered some new artists yesterday Jin Soo Kim, Ernest Neto and Valeska Soares they are installation artists.

Absurd Sensuality
The title of my blog is what I am trying to create in my own work. Absurd sensuality relates to many artists like Joesph Beuys, Eva Hesse,Ann Hamilton and Wolfgang Laib and theyall inform my own work. I am atrracted to their absurd use of materials (honey, pollen, milk, beeswax, dirt etc.) that grasp the sensuality and the spiritual. All of these artists used/ use intermedia for their creative expression.
